Meet Phil 👋 🏡 Neighbourhood: Broadview N East York 🚀 Karrot Status: Legendary Karroter 💗 What Phil thinks of Karrot: "Karrot is #1!" 🥕 Phil's profile: karrot://hash_users/qnOAx084gMn0aXVB Q. How Did You Get Started? I’ve been on Kijiji for a few years but Karrot blew my mind when I started using it. The ease of use and simplicity without the burden of sifting through ads makes the app super user friendly. I posted an ad to see if I could sell it and surely enough I got some responses which made me continue to post more items. I’ve only been using it for a couple of months, but I loved it from that point on. I’ve sold a lot of households items and kitchenware. I always make sure it’s something that’s usable & useful for people. Q. Motivation for Selling Secondhand? I live in Markham but frequently visit my parent’s house as I’m a full-time caregiver for my mother. If you saw my parent’s house you’d think it was a warehouse. My mother was in the hospital so I thought it was the perfect opportunity to clear up the space. I saw so many items and thought “who’s going to use all this stuff?” and that’s when I started my decluttering journey. A lot of the items my mother has accumulated over the years pre-covid have been unused. It was over a decade of impulse buying! And it’s a shame to have something that’s in perfectly good condition just sitting there. Q. Memorable Karrot Experience The very first deal I had on July 22nd I sold a part of my stereo system that was around 25 yrs to an individual who wanted to buy an old cassette player for his mother. He picked it up and the next day he messaged me on Karrot telling me that his mother was overjoyed with tears to be listen to listen to her favourite cassettes again! It made it feel like more than just a sale. Q. Selling Tips? Simply present it in an honest way. Make sure the description is detailed and accurate. Rationalize the price by looking at other apps & retailers for comparisons. My mother had some items that were more than a decade old, for example some household furnishings that cost $300 back then, but then after searching up the item, I found that in today’s price it’s worth $700. So I put my price at $400 and if people want to bargain there’s a bit of wiggle room. Being a customer helps you be a seller. You have to put yourself in the shoes of the potential buyer. Q. What Makes the Karrot Community Special? It’s a tight knit community and keeps everything local. I found that 90% of the people that came were within a couple of km. And I’m meeting real neighbours thinking “how have I never met them before”? I refer a lot of my friends too. I tell them about the gift card offer promotions because I know that 99% of people in my circle are trying to declutter as well. Thanks for reading everyone!
